Lessons from the Corporate World

1. Treat each person as a customer and put your best foot forward in terms of work or personal interaction.
2. In today's world, your work alone may not allow you to succeed. You need to develop your social/communication skills as well to get ahead. You need to be in the good books of everyone as you never know whose feedback will count at a later date.
3. You need to put in your best effort as well in this competitive world as that would be first base of judging you.
4. You need to be technically sound to take on higher roles in the future. This is your base that you may have to fall back on at a later date. One has to be first technically sound in order to manage juniors at a later date and gain their respect.
5. Keep in touch with people. You never know when you might require their help and then it would be much easier than cold calling.
6. Help others when you can and hope that you may never have to ask their favor in return at any point in the future.
7. Never get in an argument with your boss. He has ultimate power over you.
8. Respond to situations speedily. Your personal brand is all that people judge you with when they do not know you. So defend/sustain/build it at every opportunity.
